The image was indelible: green pastures extending over vast rolling plains, mountains far off in the distance, the sun rising in the east and a warm breeze rushing through the air. There would be the quiet sound of an engine and the faint whir of wheels racing down long empty roads, and the sights all around would seem endless as I drove.

So there was this one time, Erik Maser '11 told me, he was trekking his way through the Amazon rainforest in search of a legend so powerful and trance-like no mortal man could describe its grace and style. Suddenly, the French/Semiotics-potential major came upon it: full grown men, balancing in the air! A whole tribe of meditating rainforesteers, on ropes strung up between the trees! It's true! To pass on the teachings from his rainforest findings and trusted peers from his hometown in Colorado, Maser has brought to Brown University the art of Slacklining, otherwise described as well-balanced bare-footers walking on three-foot-high ropes strung between Main Green trees on sunny afternoons.

Top Three Forgotten Battle Scenes

War, war, war … Brown students have strong feelings about the subject, and yet we remain glued to the screen when a good battle scene appears in a movie. Some of us even know the pre-battle Braveheart speech by heart, or the exact model of Tie-Fighter used in the final battle of Return of the Jedi - and yet, some battle sequences remain to be discovered.

So I'm going to do something I don't normally do: judge movies solely by their trailers.
Actually, that's a lie. I always do that.
But considering the fact that at least two-thirds of summer movies will blow chunks, regardless of hype, I have done some dirty work and suffered through the movie trailers for summer 2008 with the hope that I can prevent you from spending those precious fifteen dollars.

Harrison Ford sits on the back of an old motorcycle and grips the leather jacket of Shia LaBeouf as they roar across a cobblestone walkway into a quad littered with picket signs and protesters who look straight out of Pleasantville. The air is thick with smoke - Shia squints as he rides - and just as they near the gates by the courtyard, the whole scene stops: the camera crew, riding atop a dolly the size of an Oldsmobile, begins to move back into place and the extras shuffle back to their positions.

You like '80s pop. Clarification: you love '80s pop. The pleasure centers of your brain crave a-ha and the Eurythmics non-stop, and all you really want in life is to be spun right round, like a record baby, right round round round. Madonna taught you more about virgins and prayer than the Catholic church, and even when George Michael is getting it on with old guys in public parks you stand by your man.

Friday dawned comfortably and then inched towards 70 by early afternoon. My car had been parked in the sun for a couple hours and was oppressively hot by the time I picked up rapper Sun Zoo. Better known as Charlie Custer to his Brown classmates, his appearance defies rap archetypes.

Scanning next year's course catalog for the first time is always an exciting and somewhat unpredictable experience. I cannot even begin to tell you how pleased I was when, flipping through the pages of the Comparative Literature section, I discovered that Professor Arnold Weinstein would be teaching an introductory class on Scandinavian literature.

My roommates and I threw a party a couple of years ago and decided to post menus with recommended cocktails and shooters around the room. We didn't want to have a bartender mixing drinks and slowing down the whole process, but we also wanted to give people more options than "can of beer" and "rum with Coke.

"The most useless are those who never change through the years." - J. M. Barrie

Eating is often a source of fear for many of us, and possibly the only facet of life in which children are less willing to experiment than adults. Sentiments ranging from "I don't eat Indian" to "What is that?" abound wherever meals are taken, and a general sense of wonder at anything creative is too often expressed, even with regard to an unorthodox salad at the Ratty.

Even as I write this sentence, I find myself in a formidable state of denial that I am parting with this position, this publication, these people and this place. Brown has made me a more sexually literate citizen and a more confident and communicative lover - as indeed has writing about getting busy every week for my most esteemed Post-.
